Rochdale Observer, July 2007...
Over the past few weeks there have been a series of street thefts in the Whitworth area. Teenagers were being stopped, threatened and their mobile phones were taken from them along with other belongings. The police had very little other than a part registration number of the offender’s vehicle. Working closely with Whitworth Council, PCSO Heidi Kirkbright and officers from Rossendale CID retrieved footage from Whitworth Council’s Innovative Amberwatch System which incorporates ANPR cameras at either end of the village. Within minutes the vehicle had been identified and as a result, a man was arrested in the Rochdale Area. It is believed that he has admitted to 9 offences, 3 in Whitworth and a further 6 in GMP and has already been charged.

“we knew that what we were installing was a fantastic system, but this has been an unbelievable result. We work very closely with our police partners and it has vindicated our decision to invest in it”
Neil Mackinnon, MD of 247 said...
“we are very pleased that our system has been key to detecting these offences in Whitworth. We are very aware of what the system can do, and how Councils can benefit from it”.
